Before visiting any dog park, it is best if your dog is well-trained and fully vaccinated. This ensures the safety of all guests that visit and provides an enjoyable experience for everybody. If passing through Tampa, or living in the area, here are 10 of the dog parks you may want to check out.
1. Palma Ceia Dog Park
Located in Palma Ceia Park, Palma Ceia dog park is a fun place for your pup to go off-leash. This dog park is fully fenced off, with a double-gated entrance. Along with the dog park, there is also a playground, walking paths, and a sports field at Palma Ceia Park. The dog park is the only area where dogs can play off-leash, but there is plenty of room for them to run. Palma Ceia dog park is a simple area with sandy surfacing. It has large trees spread around for shade, with a few benches to sit on. In the rainy season, your dog may get muddy, but water is provided for when your dog gets thirsty.
2. West Park Dog Park
A large off-leash area for your pup, West Park dog park can be found in the western region of Tampa. This dog park is fully fenced off, with dirt and grass surfaces. This park is split into two separate areas, providing a section for both large and small breeds. The dog park is next to a baseball field and playground, with something for everyone to do. West dog park provides everything you need to care for your pup while you’re there, like poop bags and water. A very open space for your dog, you can watch planes fly by as the dog park is very close to the local airport.
3. Queenie’s Dog Park
Located in the Water Works Park in Tampa, Queenie’s dog park is a fun place to take your pup to meet new friends. This dog park is right next to a water park and is also by a large pond. Queenie’s dog park has synthetic turf and rubber surfacing. Not the largest of dog parks, the area is well kept, with plenty of shade, as well as a water fountain. Queenie’s dog park may get too packed in the busiest hours, but there are always friendly pooches ready to play.
4. Rowlett Dog Park
Rowlett dog park is a friendly area to take your dog to get some exercise and enjoy time off-leash. This dog park is in Rowlett park, which also has various walking paths, sports fields, and picnic areas. The dog park is right next to Hillsborough River, which has beautiful views and is a fun spot to go fishing. Rowlett dog park has an area for both large and small dog breeds. While there is plenty of space to play, the dog park also has agility equipment to further stimulate your pup. The dog park has plenty of trees and a water fountain for when your pup needs a drink.
5. Deputy Kotfila Memorial Dog Park
Found under the Selmon Expressway in Tampa, Deputy Kotfila memorial dog park is a well-shaded area great for play on the hottest of days. This dog park is named in memory of Tampa Deputy John Robert Kotfila, who sadly lost his life on the Selmon Expressway and opened first in mid-2017. Deputy Kotfila memorial dog park is well maintained with artificial turf, so your dog doesn’t get dirty. There are two areas at this park to keep small and large breeds separate. Deputy Kotfila memorial dog park has plenty of space to let your dog run, with agility tunnels and other structures placed around the park. A water fountain is present for when dogs get thirsty, and at night there are lights to help you see in the dark.
6. Logan Gate Dog Park
For dogs that visit Logan Gate park, there are two off-leash areas for them to have some fun. One section is for smaller breeds, while the other is for larger dogs. The entire dog park is around 5 acres large. The park is fully fenced off with a 6-foot chain-link fence. A large grassy area for your pup to play, water fountains are available for when you or your dog gets thirsty. Like most other dog parks in Tampa, your dog must be vaccinated and licensed before visiting.
7. Al Lopez Dog Park
Two fenced-off areas are available for your use at Al Lopez dog park, with plenty of shade for protection from the sun. One section is for smaller breeds, while the other is for larger dogs to play. The surface of this dog park is grass and dirt, and it may get muddy in the wet season. Al Lopez Dog Park is a very open and spacious off-leash area. Around the area, there are also walking trails to take your dog on a leashed walk and playgrounds for children.
8. Gadsden Dog Park
Gadsden dog park can be found in an area within Gadsden park. This dog park is well kept, and well shaded by the surrounding trees. Gadsden dog park has areas to give small and larger breeds a safe place to play. The off-leash area is just one of the amenities found at Gadsden Park, as it also has trails, sports fields, and a lake. Gadsden dog park provides water and a kiddie pool for hot days. Seating like picnic tables is located in the dog park to watch your pup play. Plenty of space at Gadsden dog park allows your dog to frolic and sprint freely.
9. Northwest Dog Park
Found in the Town Country area of Tampa, Northwest dog park is a large off-leash area for all breeds. This dog park is separated into two areas. One section is for large dogs, while the other is for small and older dogs. Both sections are fully fenced off, but the shade is minimal due to the lack of trees. Northwest dog park has water fountains for you and your pup. A small kids’ pool lets your dog cool down on hot days. A wash station is also present so you can hose your pooch clean. Poop bags and trash cans are located in the park to make it easy to pick up after your dog.
10. Davis Island Dog Park
At Davis Island dog park, there are two sections for your pup to have some time off-leash. With plenty of space in the area, this dog park is split into two separate sections. One of the areas is a small fenced area with grass. For water-loving dogs there is a beach for them to run off-leash and even take a dip in the ocean. If in the area, Davis Island dog park is a fun picnic spot, as there are plenty of tables spread about. Since there is no area for smaller breeds, it is best if your dog can play with breeds of all sizes. On some days, the area gets very crowded, but it is the least packed on the weekdays.
